Cordyceps and its benefits

Cordyceps is a medicinal mushroom. Cordyceps is also known as Tochukas (Japanese), Dong Chong Xia Cao (Chinese) and Caterpillar Fungus (English). It is known for its pharmacological and therapeutic implications. It produces active compounds such as cordycepin, exopolysaccharides, adenosine and cordymin. This club-shaped fungus may range between 20 to 50 mm in height. It is orange or red in color. The inner fungal tissue remains whitish to pale orange. Humid conditions are suitable for its growth. Mostly they are found abundantly in tropical forests.
