Amla
is an edible fruit and is also known as Indian gooseberry and myrobalan. The
fruit is almost spherical in shape and has six furrows or vertical stripes.It
is light greenish yellow in color. It tastes sour, bitter, pungent and
astringent. Dried and fresh fruits are used in Indian medicine. Fruit, seed, root,
leaves, flowers and bark of Amla tree are used in Ayurvedic / Unani medicine.
